A collection of Pearson English, Humanities & Social Sciences, and English sales people share their experiences working with Pearson Faculty Advisors:
“I have had great success with my faculty advisor Janine Buckner. She has encouraged people in her department to use MyDevelopmentLab and MyVirtualChild and I have two instructors who are faithfully using these programs due to her suggestions and praises. She has made calls, crafted emails and added her personal touch for adoptions that I’ve asked her assistance with. She is now also helping to develop MyVirtualLife that will be coming for Lifespan Development courses and I’m confident that her assistance will help us win more business as time goes on. This is a great program so reps should use it to their advantage to reap the rewards!”
—Laura Kennedy, Publisher’s Representative – New Jersey
“Using a faculty advisor who has on-line teaching expertise has really helped other professors who are just beginning to work out the kinks in their newly created classes. This degree of mentoring really puts us on the map as being true consultants and often earns us the vote and loyalty of the professor being helped!”
—Yesha Brill, Specialist – Southeast
“I have used several FAs. Terri Moore, FA for MySpeechLab, has been wonderful helping fellow professors on her campus and with phone calls to my other users guiding them through best practices. Martha Campbell, FA for Dev Studies and Comp, has presented twice to groups of professors telling them her Adventures in Course Redesign stories. She spent the entire day with me on campus, having one on ones, lunch, and presenting to the group. She was very instrumental in helping move almost 30000 units statewide. Both are invaluable people in my strategies!”—Chris Englert, Specialist – Florida/Alabama
“Getting Chris Manning, a MyHistoryLab FA at Loyola University has really opened up some conversations about technology with other members in the department. I’m hoping to use my FA in other departments as well, as the number of online courses is really expanding at Loyola and they are looking for unique solutions such as our MyLab products.”
—Natalie Popp, Publisher’s Representative – Chicago
If you are referring to Rochelle Harden………….
My instructors love hearing from someone who has used the technology in her own course. She has given them an honest assessment of MyWritingLab. Her colleagues respect her opinion and listen to everything she says since she is not just talking positive experiences. She includes challenges that she has faced and how she has gotten through them. Her realistic approach makes it easy for other instructors to relate to her. It has been refreshing to have someone else who has experience using the program to talk about how wonderful it is- and not just me!
—Sarah Stickelmaier, Publisher’s Representative – Central Illinois
“I have a school that’s started teaching French and they’re using the MyLab to assist in the course. The instructor is an adjunct with little time to dabble in new technology so I enlisted the help of a Faculty Advisor—Kathy Lorenz, University of Cincinnati . This gave the instructor ideas I couldn’t possibly provide because they dealt with curriculum issues. Moberly is one of my best accounts and the IT Administrator is thrilled we can help with these kinds of situations. No other publisher gives this level of support and they are encouraging everyone to use Pearson.”
—Laurie Panu, Senior Publisher’s Representative - Missouri
“Faculty Advisors have helped on my campuses because they act as a non-biased third party resource for the instructors. I feel that this builds trust between the instructor and the faculty advisor, and that the faculty advisor can give first hand experience using the tool as opposed to my advice. I feel that this in turn helps my relationship with both parties.”
—Elizabeth Ellsworth, Publisher's Representative – Chicago
Amy Berger came in to do a professional development workshop for comp faculty (and TAs) at Univ of Toledo . The idea of the workshop came about because the comp coordinator wants to reduce the cost of the comp books for students. In particular, the comp 1 book is Cengage’s Trimbur. The coordinator does not like Trimbur and wants to use the resources in Little Brown Compact Handbook w/Exercises to teach grammar and rhetoric with.
We got a copy of the objectives for both comp 1 and comp 2 and Amy tailored how she would structure the course – from assignments that correlated to the LBCHBw/E, to the inclusion of MyCompLab into the syllabus, to the tests created with the IRC. She built a course for faculty so they could see the depth of Little Brown and how it would address every one of their course objectives.
Amy received RAVE reviews! The TAs loved her step-by-step examples so they could see a roadmap of how to do a course. The seasoned faculty loved the examples she pulled from the handbook. They were amazed at how much LB did cover their objectives and did not know it had that much in it.
The business is something I am working on for fall 2012. I am hoping to knock Trimbur out of the loop and in comp 1 and get more of Longman’s readers in the package. The handbook is already customized, but with Amy’s help, I am hoping to create more customization.
Amy Berger was fantastic and really showed my faculty why working with Pearson will get the most benefits.
