Faculty Advisor Spotlight on Josh Everett – University of Wisconsin, La Crosse (WI)

“My students [are] much more prepared for their exams,” says Faculty Advisor and MySpanishLab user Josh Everett. The large quantity of tutorials and review resources in MyspanishLab prevent Everett’s students from wasting, “precious study time by searching for review resources. They simply use the many tools available in MySpanishLab.”

Everett is the Director of the Language Resource Center and an Associate Lecturer at University of Wisconsin, La Crosse and teaches both introductory and intermediate level courses. The flexibility of MySpanishLab is what drew Everett to incorporating the product into his courses. “MySpanishLab contains an unrivaled number and variety of resources, providing instructors with countless uses for the site.” Everett utilizes almost all of the resources available within MySpanishLab using the cultural content and exercises in grammar and vocabulary as homework and suggesting students use items like pre-, post-, and practice tests and tutorials as opportunities to prepare for class as well as review for exams.

Still being relatively new to the Faculty Advisor program himself, Everett has settled in quickly to the job. Sharing all the time-saving tips he has learned working with MySpanishLab has become one of the aspects of being a Faculty Advisor he enjoys most. “I enjoy the opportunity to demonstrate helpful, time-saving resources to faculty who experience the same high work load as I do,” says Everett. “Being able to help other educators overcome some of the struggles inherent to education is a very rewarding experience.”

For those just joining the Faculty Advisor program, Everett recommends really taking the time to connect with other universities focusing on what resources they’re currently using and what they might be interested in for the future. Serve as a, “resource for them when they consider new textbooks and ancillary materials,” suggests Everett. “The more you know about the programs at other universities, the better you can advise them and help them discover the excellent resources available through Pearson’s MyLabs.”

What Faculty Advisor activities do you enjoy the most? How often do you interact with faculty from other schools about using MyLabs or Mastering products?
