Faculty Advisor Spotlight on Rachel Winston, Cerro Coso College (CA)

All of my classes are taught using MyMathLab because of its functionality, depth of content, and ability to interact with my students.

This glowing accolade for MyMathLab by Rachel Winston, Mathematics Professor at Cerro Coso College, stems from her appreciation for MyMathLab’s ability to connect her to her students. Winston has even begun developing her own video content to add to both her online and hybrid courses.

MyMathLab has changed the way Winston feels about online courses, “In the past, many online courses were static with limited ability to interact. Now there are an enormous number of ways to connect with students, provide examples that resonate, and be intentional about student success, persistence, and retention.” Winston enjoys that MyMathLab allows her to take an active role to engage her students even if she isn’t sitting in a classroom with them.

A surprising result of using MyMathLab or any technology, for that matter, is the opportunity to receive student input to help shape the course. When Winston tests out new technology or invites her students to consider, “incorporating innovations into their learning strategy,” she’s giving them an outlet to share their input for the future—something that’s vitally important.

Drawn to the Faculty Advisor program by the opportunity to really think outside the box, Winston most looks forward to helping drive educational reform through technology innovation.
