Teaching at a university that’s fully online can present its own set of challenges. When your course format can only be online, how do you create an interactive and engaging virtual learning environment? Simple. Use MySpanishLab.
Cari Jiménez developed the first-year, online Spanish program at Columbia Southern University using MySpanishLab as the “core of the course.” Jiménez sees the technology as a “virtual language lab where students come to learn, practice, and assess their proficiency and fluency.”
Not only does MySpanishLab provide Jiménez with a virtual location to teach, but it gives her students who might not be able to study at a traditional college, a virtual place to learn. MySpanishLab allows individuals with busy lives and limited resources to nurture their passion for learning Spanish while continuing to work.
Being a Faculty Advisor allows Jiménez to not only share her own experiences using MySpanishLab to teach, but it also provides her with an opportunity to learn from her peers. This peer-to-peer learning is a key ingredient in the whole program and Jiménez suggests each Faculty Advisor gets involved. “Mentoring others will increase your self-efficacy and effectiveness as a professional educator.”
