MasteringChemistry Faculty Advisor Wins Prestigious President’s Award

Dr. Klaus Woelk, Associate Professor and Assistant Department Chair in Chemistry at Missouri University of Science and Technology joins an elite group in winning the 2011 President’s Award – the highest honor bestowed on an individual within the University of Missouri system.

The President’s Award is bestowed on faculty and students exhibiting excellence among the University’s four mission areas of teaching, research, service, and economic development.

Woelk will receive the President’s Award for Innovative Teaching this June at the University of Missouri Board of Curators meeting.  This particular award recognizes work done with innovative teaching methods such as electronic resources, social media, or experimental activities.  Woelk’s work redesigning the general chemistry course using MasteringChemistry qualified him for this honor.

In addition to his redesign of general chemistry at Missouri S&T, Woelk is leading the general chemistry course redesign effort for the entire University of Missouri system.  This initiative from Missouri Governor Jay Nixon has Woelk collaborating with the National Center for Academic Transformation.

Congratulations Klaus!
